Sunny days in Bergen at Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center.
Crash Course on Data Assimilation at NERSC
01.06.2018The second crash course on data assimilation was held at Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center (NERSC) in Bergen, Norway.
It took place from May 22-25 and NERSC co-organized the course with IRIS, CHESS and the COST action EOS (Evaluation of Ocean Syntheses). The organizers gathered thirtyfive students and early-stage researchers from fifteen countries and from four continents.
The two first days of the course focused on the theory of data assimilation and the two last days on applications. There were four hours of tutorials with the DAPPER package on Jupyter notebooks and the participants had the opportunity to discuss the students' posters amidst the urge to enjoy the famous Bergen sunshine!
The crash course preceded the international EnKF workshop in Bergen with which it shared three invited speakers Svetlana Dubinkina (CWI, Nl), Yan Chen (Total UK), and Harrie-Jan Hendricks Franssen (Universität. Jülich, Germany).
Crash course every second year
From now on the Crash Course will take place every second year, in alternance with the data assimilation summer school in Romania. The organizers are looking very much forward to the next edition!
