Forskningsdagene (“Science Week”) 2016: Rock, fluid, folk interactions
11.10.2016IRIS Energy had a stand together with the Norwegian Petroleum Museum on this years “Forskertorg” on the 24th of October. The event was organized by “Forskningsdagene”.
The theme of the stand was ENERGY. We brought with us a derrick (Ullrigg in miniature), rock samples and oil, as well as various samples of water-oil, polymer-oil, surfactant-oil etc. The visitors could shake and stir the different samples. Surprisingly, many had never attempted to mix oil and water before!
To demonstrate how polymer can alter the behavior of water, we used “bottled tornadoes” (see picture). One of the bottles contained ordinary water and the other contained polymer solution. The high viscosity makes it impossible to create a tornado in the bottle containing polymer solution, although many strong parents made a tremendous effort to achieve it.
The Petroleum museum displayed a windmill and a steam engine. The stand was very well attended and together we gave a thorough coverage of the topic "Energy".
