IOR Norway 2015: Joining forces to recover more!

26.06.2015

The National IOR Centre of Norway’s first annual IOR conference, IOR Norway 2015, took place at the University of Stavanger April 28 and 29.

The conference, which hosted 300 participants and close to 30 speakers, was introduced by the Norwegian Minister of Petroleum and Energy; Tord Lien, and the two days included talks from international leading experts from both the academia and the industry.

Three speaker from IRIS contributed as presenters at the conference: Geir Nævdal gave his talk “Reservoir characterization using ensemble based methods”. Aksel Hiorth presented a new IOR simulator in his talk “IORSim – an add-on tool to ECLIPSE for fast and accurate simulation of multiphase geochemical interactions at the field scale” and Johan Olav Helland presented “Three-phase fluid displacements on the pore scale: method and mechanisms”. Aksel Hiorth and Geir Nævdal are also the theme leaders of the two themes of the IOR Centre:

  • “Theme 1: Mobile and immobile oil and EOR methods”
  • “Theme 2: Mobile oil – Reservoir characterization to improve volumetric sweep”

Developing the IORSim is one of the main activities within Theme1 and IRIS’ long term and highly recognized research within ensemble-based methods for reservoir characterization is one of the pillars of the research within Theme2.

Following the conference was a one-day workshop, focusing on EOR at laboratory scale i.e. micro scale and core scale.

The date for the 2016 conference by The National IOR Centre of Norway will be 26-27 April 2016.
