IOR NORWAY 2015 officially open

28.04.2015

- It is a great pleasure to be at the IOR-Conference for the first time. The central theme is “Joining forces – to recover more” - I support that, said The Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Tord Lien in his opening speech.

The very first IOR Norway Conference is held at the University of Stavanger and arranged by UiS, IRIS and IFE, together with the partners of the National IOR Centre of Norway.

Professor Merete Vadla Madland, head of the IOR Centre, welcomed close to 300 participants to a two-day program of numerous sessions related to improved oil recovery.

The Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Tord Lien, continued with some comments on the current situation at the Norwegian Continental Shelf, an industry that is currently employing more than 240 000 people all over the country.

The Minister stressed that we have a great story to tell, not only about what is happening in new and frontier areas of petroleum production, but also about the work horses of the NCS - our mature fields - where of course IOR is important.

Looking ahead, the Minister assured the audience that IOR will be high on the Ministry's agenda, and that he expect the National IOR Centre of Norway to play a key role in developing and demonstrating new technologies for increased recovery.

- I want to challenge those companies that have invested in the centre. We need to bring the important research done at this centre - to the big laboratory – the Norwegian Continental Shelf", said the Minister.

- What you are doing here is very much about the future. But we can always learn lessons from the past, he said, before wishing all the participants good luck with the rest of the conference.
