Digitalization and development of software is a key research area at IRIS. We have worked on digitalization and automation of drilling and reservoir management for several decades and an increasing number of projects in Energy, Social Science, Environment and Ullrigg relate to digitalization. Our social researchers carried out an important survey of the HSE impacts of digitalization for Petroleum and Safety Authority Norway (Ptil) in order to identify and recommend measures for industry and Ptil. The Drilling Data Hub is a further important project dealing with the sharing of data and open interfaces between different drilling tools.
“The annual report is packed with good stories about the highlights of 2017, such as the opening of the SUREAQUA Nordic Centre of Excellence for research into bioeconomy in Stavanger on 25 September. Another story is about DrillTronics. The software for automated drilling during 2017 was installed and tested with remarkable results on the mobile rig Songa Enabler, saving cost and creating value. The annual report 2017 is well worth a read”, Kristin M. Flornes points out.
