Professor Aksel Hiorth, invited speaker to Imperial College

15.03.2016

Aksel was invited by Professor Matthew Jackson, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Earth Science & Engineering when they both attended an NPF conference in Stavanger last year.

The talk was held at the “Petroleum Group Research Lunchtime Seminars” on March 8 and was attended by students and staff from the Petroleum Engineering and Geoscience group.

The tittle of the talk was “Water Weakening of Chalk – Insight from Lab Experiments and Numerical Modelling” and aimed at summarizing part of the work Aksel et al. have done on understanding why chalk cores are weakened when they are exposed to seawater. Link to abstract.

Aksel traveled with Professor Merete V. Madland from the University of Stavanger and they got to meet Professor Ann Muggeridge, and scientists and students from Matthew Jackson’s group. Among the topics they discussed were streaming potential and the possibilities of coupling surface based reservoir modelling to geochemistry. Aksel and Merete also got a tour of the groups laboratory facilities.
