Successful PDE Software Frameworks conference in Bergen

18.06.2018

The conference covered a mixture of in-depth presentations on topics like High Performance Computing and advanced discretization methods and more general overview of software frameworks and how they are used to solve societal and industrial relevant problems.

Senior Research Scientist a IRIS, Robert Klöfkorn explains that the conference that took place from May 28-30 in Bergen, was successful in many ways. The conference had a broad and diverse audience that came to discuss software related matters stemming from the common goal to solve society relevant problems using advanced simulation technology.

"Especially, the many young researchers participating in the conference will hopefully lead to an increased recognition and a strong research community in the coming years", says Klöfkorn.

The conference attracted 46 participants from universities and research institutes all over Europe. Paul Fisher was invited all the way from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to share his experience on the topic.

Solving societal and industrial challenges
The conference covered a mixture of in-depth presentations on topics like High Performance Computing and advanced discretization methods and more general overview of software frameworks and how they are used to solve societal and industrial relevant problems. Many participants also presented python wrappers and code-generation as a remedy to facilitate both user friendly and high-performance software.

The conference was organized by IRIS/The National IOR Centre together with the University of Bergen and Simula. The conference was also sponsored by the Research Council of Norway through the INTPART project InSPiRE and IKTPLUSS events support.
