Abstract:
The use of technologies that register and store personal information is ;increasing. Such technologies appear everywhere, offering support and services. ;In many cases, the offers require personal data, and the data is stated in ;exchange for different sorts of benefits. For individuals, the use can be ;motivated by for example discounts, short cuts, less work filling in forms etc. ;Organizations and institutions may see such data as a possibility to direct ;their marketing, keep on costumers, get access to information etc. While some ;purposes are commercial, others are meant to secure common goods. ;;Despite benefits from the use of personal data, it is claimed that it ;represents a threat towards privacy. Experts from different fields warn against ;giving away personal information too easily. In Norway, the Data Inspectorate ;and The Norwegian Board of Technology are among those who express concerns, but ;also academics raise their voices from time to time, pointing at risks. ;;
