IRIS has been an active partner in the Open Porous Media (OPM) Initiative since the start in 2009. The OPM goal is to build a suite of open source simulation tools for porous media flow. The code base can be used in many different fields including oil recovery, CO2 storage and environmental engineering. The code can be downloaded freely from github and all the OPM modules are released under the terms of GNU General Public License (GPL) version 3.

IRIS has several ongoing projects within the OPM initiative:
• A numerical CO2 laboratorywith SINTEF ICT and Uni CIPR funded by CLIMIT and Statoil
• Simulation of EORwith SINTEF ICT, Univ. of Stuttgart and Univ. of Heidelberg funded by Statoil and Total.
• Simulation Tools for CO2 Storage and CO2-EOR with SINTEF ICT and DigiTrail in Stuttgart funded by CLIMIT and Statoil
