The 4th International Colloquium on Non-linear dynamics and control of deep drilling systems is a follow-up of the meetings on the same topics, held at the University of Liège, Belgium, in 2009, at the Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands, in 2012 and at the University of Minnesota, U.S.A., in 2014.  In order to encourage participation and fruitful discussions, the number of participants is again limited to about 30-40 researchers.

The theme of the colloquium focuses on the modeling, analysis and control of dynamics within the topics of:
  • Underbalanced Operations & Managed Pressure Drilling (UBO/MPD)
  • Drill String Vibrations & Drilling Mechanics
  • Geosteering & Borehole Propagation
  • Drilling Automation & ROP Optimization
Further advancement in these fields to address the problems faced in drilling practice will require synergetic efforts from different research communities, namely those of dynamical systems and nonlinear structural vibrations, geo-mechanics, drilling technology and control theory. Moreover, it will require intensive collaboration between academia and industry. The researchers we have invited collectively represent these different communities. We hope that this colloquium will stimulate a dynamic exchange of ideas between participants, who have diverse backgrounds but are all interested in the scientific and industrial challenges brought up by this important engineering application.
The structure of the meeting and the relatively limited number of participants will allow for an informal atmosphere and ample time for discussion.

The meeting will be held at the beautiful location of the Preikestolen Mountain Lodge with extra accommodation at the nearby Preikestolhytta. The location is a two hour drive outside Stavanger at the entrance of the iconic Preikestolen cliff above the Lysefjord, Rogaland, in Western-Norway. Transportation from Stavanger will be organized.

Participation in the colloquium is by invitation only. Through sponsorships we are able to provide invitees the following reduced accommodation rates for two nights (May 14-16), which include meals and the conference fee (in NOK):
