Merete Jonvik is part of the research group Welfare, Policy and Politics at IRIS Social Science. She holds a PhD in sociology from University of Stavanger (2015). Her thesis is about how people perceive, construct and communicate social differences. By way of qualitative interviews, home visits and photo elicitation, the thesis analyses variations in cultural preferences, cultural boundary drawings and perceptions of social hierarchies, as well as discusses social implications of divergent perceptions of cultural differences. Jonvik’s research are within the fields of cultural sociology, identity construction, workplace learning and appropriation of culture and art. Methodically she works with qualitative methods.
