High Energy Test Environment (HETE)

The High Energy Test Environment facility (HETE) can provide a safe testbed that meet the most extensive safety requirements during testing at extreme energy levels. Driven by design criteria; testing under high pressure and high temperatures including large volume test objects, can now be done in a safe and contained manner.

HETE is built around a state of the art test pit with the latest safety systems, developed in cooperation with the Norwegian Defense and NTNU. We opted for a “floating” pit-design leaving the pit as a standalone object. This greatly reduces the probability of damage to the structure and surroundings of the facility in case of test failure.

Dimensions are; 20 m long, 2 m wide and 3 m deep, weighing in at a total of 400 metric tons. Equipped with a unique crash-box system to reduce impact damages internally to the pit walls and furthermore protecting the overall facility makes it capable of absorbing high energy impacts. It can safely dampen an object weight of 300 kg traveling at a speed of 194 m/sec or 700 km/h.

Extreme testing has never been more safe.
