Statoil took the initiative to build and develop a TFL test facility at Rogalandsforskning`s rig area (now renamed IRIS) in 1984. At that time it was the 4,5" TFL technology being tested and qualified for use in the North Sea.
In 1988 the test facility succeded to Rogalandsforskning. When SAGA Petroleum was faced with the challenge of developing the Snorre field using TFL technology on its subsea wells, the facility was refitted for testing 3.5" TFL equipment. Today Statoil still makes use of the facility to qualify methods and equipment for use in the Snorre field.
