Statoil took the initiative to build and develop a TFL test facility at Rogalandsforskning`s rig area (now renamed IRIS) in 1984. At that time it was the 4,5" TFL technology that was tested and qualified for use in the North Sea.
In 1988 the test facility was taken over by Rogalandsforskning. When SAGA Petroleum was faced with the challenge of developing the Snorre field using TFL technology on its sub sea wells, the facility was refitted for testing 3.5" TFL equipment.
Today Statoil makes use of the facility to qualify methods and equipment for use in the Snorre field.
